andalusian courtyard in northern spain
in the beautifully green region of Cantabria,
the intervention has been done in a contemporary
spirit on the exterior of a large country house
which was renovated by the owner-sculptor. The
project begins with the functional areas of the
house starting from the courtyard where a date palm,
trellised citrus trees and earthenware pots recall
the atmosphere of an Andalusian patio. The courtyard
overlooks a classic garden of vegetables and flowers,
surrounded by unexpected Korten steel tanks which
remind one of the troughs of the surrounding pastures
and reflect the sky in motion. The outdoor dining area
incorporates the ruin of an old wall, and is graced by
a pool with aquatic plants and a window which frames
the view over the valley.
