the magic garden
the requirements of the owner were to give a
certain character to his very large garden which was
already rich with important trees and shrubs; the
construction of a boundary wall has concentrated it
somewhat, giving the appearance of an "ortus conclusus"
or enclosed garden. large hanging rosmary bushes signal
the small secret garden which is home to abundant fruit
trees. as a whole, the garden is very fresh and shaded,
making it habitable even in midsummer, in spite of the
extremely warm climate. the solution was to design a
space divided into "rooms" with various functions -
above all to accomodate the impressive collection of
garden "objects-decor" of the owner, a milanese antique
dealer. protagonist of one of these spaces is an antique
pool which has undergone restoration. at the end of the
path from the main house to the guest cottage, the terrace
has been transformed into a open living room.
