shadows and light

the house which once belonged to an impressionist
painter, is bathed in the intense light of the coast.
the owner wished to bring about a series of innovations
leaving the magic of the place intact. the first step
was to organize the pinewoods and the boundary hedges,
then the garden adjacent to the house where there is a
large naturalistic pool, was been reclaimed. the goal was
to transform the area into a "maison en plein air". a well
appointed open kitchen has been built in a garden surrounded
by perfumed hedges, from which you pass into the ample dining
pergola . this is followed by a living area next to the pool:
a covered space for listening to music, reading and relaxing
on super size sofas covered in fresh white linen. the new
structural interventions harmonize with the house now that
mature plants and shrubs have been re-planted, creating a
theatrical "wings" effect, giving the impression of having
always been part of the property.
