green oasis
in a village perched high at 600 metres
in facing the sea, the client wished to create
a small green oasis protected by the walls of
the houses from the wind, but as there was no
earth in the gardens, it had to be brought on
the backs of donkeys from the surrounding country.
fortunately, and unusually for greece, there was
an abundance of water. this made it possible to
create the only automatic irrigation system in the
village, which was indispensable for the realization
of the small soft dicondra lawn. fruit trees and
vines grow around the terrace-dining room, the
external living area is surrounded by rosemary,
espalier of lemons cling to the walls, and large
terracotta vases decorate the patio. the perfume in
the garden is intense, and one can pick the flowers
or gather fruit and vegetables.
